Water Heater Maintenance & TPR Valves

TPR Valves and Discharge Piping I thought this would be useful information as defects with this valve can show up on an inspection report and many people have no idea what this valve does and why it's important. Temperature/pressure-relief or TPR valves are safety devices installed on water heaters. TPRs are designed to automatically release water in the event that pressure or temperature in the water tank exceeds safe levels. If temperature sensors and safety devices such as TPRs … [Read more...]

Sherwin Williams Color of the year for 2017

So Sherwin Williams recently posted that their color of the year for 2017 is Poised Taupe (SW 6039).  Remember back about 6 years ago when everything was done in shades of tan/taupe and then everything went gray?  Sherwin Williams decided to blend those two trends and now we have a color like Poised Taupe.  It's a warm gray/taupe blend and really mixes well with a lot of woods and colors.  It would make a great neutral for living areas, bedrooms and even kitchens. Graphic Wall Treatment

On a recent trip to Milwaukee's Third Ward area I came across this graphic wall treatment in one of the industrial buildings.  It's such a simple idea but provides a ton of impact to this office foyer space.  They treated the wall in this wood like wall covering, it may have been vinyl flooring.  Each three dimensional box is then also covered in the same material to provide a unified color scheme.  Each box is then hung on the wall with the corners connecting. You could easily duplicate this … [Read more...]

I just read an article that a new series … [Read more...]

What do you think?  Could you do a black and white bathroom?   Pretty interesting how you can use the same exact color palate and come up with three completely different looks.  Which one is your favorite? … [Read more...]

Prepping Your Home for Sale

Prepping Your Home for Sale I always recommend that people pay to have their home inspected prior to putting it up for sale - why you ask?  It allows you, the seller, to uncover items that may become a deal breaker later.  Some people don't want to incur the cost, since the buyer will do an inspection anyway. Here's what happens again and again.  The seller doesn't want to pay a few hundred dollars for the pre-inspection and put the house on the market.  They get an offer on their house, … [Read more...]

How to properly test your smoke detectors

Do you know there was one fire death every 2 hours and 42 minutes and a fire injury every 33 minutes in 2013?  According to the US Fire Departments they responded to over 1.2 million calls for fire related issues.  The direct cost for property damage was estimated around $11.5 billion. The saddest part about all of these statistics is the fact that most of these home had smoke detectors that just didn't work.  Most people test their smoke detectors by pressing the button and seeing if it … [Read more...]
